Description

A fierce snowstorm whirls outside a modest pastor’s house, yet inside the warm glow of a lamp, a young family gathers around a sturdy table. The children, Auri and Tarmo, press their faces to the window, dreaming of tomorrow’s adventures, while their mother Heljä moves between kitchen and hearth, preparing tea and simple meals. Pastor Mikko, deep‑thinking and scholarly, tries to balance his theological studies with the comfort of his home, offering stories and gentle guidance to the eager youngsters.

Through tender dialogue and vivid description, the opening paints a picture of rural Finland in the early 1920s—a place where faith, duty, and daily chores intertwine. Listeners are invited to feel the crisp air, the crackle of the stove, and the quiet reassurance of a family bound by love and shared hope, setting the stage for the challenges and choices that will later ripple through their lives.
