Description

Set against the restless tide of early‑twentieth‑century Europe, the story opens amid the clamor of naval drills and the lingering echo of a nation’s debts. Through verses that recall rowers battling storm‑tossed seas and veterans recalling distant campaigns, the narrative sketches a world where personal convictions clash with the demands of empire. The atmosphere is charged with the weight of duty, the rumble of political maneuvering, and the quiet anxieties of those left on the home front.

At its heart is a young woman whose husband, a promising public servant, is summoned to the front lines just as his political career begins to take shape. As she navigates the expectations of society, the strain of wartime correspondence, and the uncertainty of his return, her inner conflict mirrors the larger national tension between honor and loss. The early chapters explore how love, responsibility, and the looming shadow of conflict reshape ordinary lives in extraordinary ways.
