Description

A young merchant’s son, tall and strong, lives in the bustling coastal city of Langton. Though blessed with wealth and a respected lineage, his marriage quickly turns sour, leaving him restless and yearning for something beyond the narrow streets and the bitterness at home. When his father, a powerful trader, learns of his son’s desire to leave, he reluctantly agrees, setting the stage for a bold departure.

Walter boards the newly‑launched ship Katherine, guided by a seasoned skipper and supplied with his family’s cargo. As the vessel pulls away from the harbor, the promise of distant lands and fresh horizons beckons, while lingering doubts about love, duty, and identity stir beneath the waves. Listeners will be drawn into a tale of youthful ambition, familial ties, and the first steps of a journey that may reshape a life forever.

About the author

William Morris

William Morris

1834–1896

A central figure in the Arts and Crafts movement, this Victorian writer and designer brought the same love of beauty and workmanship to poems, stories, textiles, and books. His imagination helped shape modern fantasy, while his ideas about art and labor still feel strikingly modern.
