Description

In the newly built, genteel suburb of Troy, London, the streets are lined with classical villas named after ancient heroes, and life proceeds with a quiet, almost academic respectability. Constable Mulligan, a large‑hearted but solitary officer, patrols the quiet lanes on a windy night, his thoughts drifting to a hopeful Sunday outing with a housemaid. The neighbourhood’s perfect drainage and immaculate gardens give the impression of permanent order, yet the stillness of the hour feels oddly oppressive.

That night Mulligan’s routine is shattered when a faint melody drifts from a lit window of Ajax Villa, followed by the careful emergence of a lone figure in the darkness. The stranger’s hesitant steps and the unusual caution with which the door is opened suggest something amiss, pulling the constable into a puzzle that will disturb the suburb’s placid façade. As he watches, the mystery of the “white room” begins to unfold, promising a series of curious investigations that will test his diligence and uncover hidden secrets.
