In the dusty heart of Calumet, a sleepy cow town clings to its routine beneath a relentless summer sun. The thin‑air of the Ten Bar hums with stale beer and the clatter of boots on warped boards, while two weather‑worn riders—Hashknife Hartley and his bow‑legged companion Sleepy Stevens—roll into town on tired horses. Their arrival rustles the midday siesta, and the locals greet them with a mix of rough camaraderie and wary curiosity, already swapping nicknames and half‑remembered stories.
As the new arrivals settle in, old questions rise from the dust. The townsfolk whisper about Sibley’s lingering inquiries, a missing letter, and a mysterious tin contraption that once turned the river’s flow into something strange. With friendships tested and secrets hinting at trouble beyond the saloon doors, Hashknife and Sleepy find themselves pulled into a quiet crisis that could reshape the sleepy prairie they thought they’d left behind.
