Description

A remote tropical island swarms with life under a misty dawn, its white‑painted schooner slicing through the calm sea. The sparse European cast—missionary and wife, a German trader and his native partner, an English trader with his mixed‑heritage children, and a grizzled American ex‑whaler—live in uneasy balance with a small native community that gathers along the sun‑kissed shore. When the strange vessel appears, the island erupts in noisy excitement, the natives shouting “Evaka! Evaka!” as they rush to the beach, while the missionary, weary yet fiery, steps out onto his verandah to meet the unknown guests.

The arrival sparks curiosity and suspicion among the residents; the traders speculate it might be a gunboat, the missionary hopes it isn’t the long‑awaited supply ship, and each person feels the pull of destiny in the humid air. As the schooner drops anchor amid a fleet of canoes, the quiet rhythm of island life pauses, leaving listeners to wonder what alliances, conflicts, or secrets the new visitors will bring to this isolated corner of Melanesia.
