Description

Deep within a mountain kingdom live three curious goblins—Red‑Cap, Blue‑Cap and Yellow‑Cap—who have only ever known the safety of their father's rule. When Old Black‑Cap tasks them with retrieving a stolen red feather, the brothers step through a rabbit hole into the vast outside world. Their first trial is a sudden tumble inside a mysterious white sphere that rolls them down a stream, where a kindly water‑rat rescues Red‑Cap and points the trio toward a hidden clue in a tree.

The clue—a golden message—directs them to a dark forest and a glittering fence marked “Tom Tiddler’s Ground.” Tempted by the promise of gold and silver, the goblins seize the treasure only to be caught by a giant and imprisoned in a pantry. Using quick wit, they discover an unlocked window and slip away, clutching a sack of loot as they flee. Their daring escape sets the stage for the next phase of their quest, promising more wonder and danger ahead.

Mabel G. Taggart

Best known for a single charming children’s fantasy from the early 1900s, this elusive writer left behind a small but memorable footprint in classic juvenile fiction. Her surviving work mixes fairy-tale adventure with illustrations that add to its old-fashioned appeal.
