Set amid the rolling hills on the edge of De Soto Parish, this study brings to life a once‑thriving village that perched above an ancient lakebed in northwestern Louisiana. The author paints a vivid picture of the landscape—oak and persimmon groves, pine‑covered uplands, and a network of bayous that once teemed with fish and waterfowl. Through detailed maps and field notes, readers can almost hear the rustle of reeds and feel the soft, fertile soils that once covered the settlement.
The heart of the work lies in the careful examination of the material culture uncovered there: nineteen pottery vessels, most of them classic Alto Focus types, alongside burials, dart points, and a modest array of stone tools. By comparing these ceramics with those from neighboring sites in Texas and central Louisiana, the author explores how Alto, Coles Creek, Bossier, and even late Caddoan influences converged in this community. The analysis offers a nuanced glimpse into the cultural dynamics that shaped the region long before historic records began.

A small arrow point found on a family camping trip sent this Louisiana pediatrician in an entirely new direction. He went on to become a key researcher of prehistoric sites in the Southeast, especially in Louisiana.
