A mischievous janitor’s son discovers a rocket hidden in the basement, lights the fuse, and sends it blasting upward through an apartment building. From floor to floor, the runaway projectile crashes into breakfast tables, toy arks, musical instruments, bathtubs, footballs, hats, and anything else unlucky enough to be in its path.
Each stop introduces a new resident caught in a ridiculous moment, with lively rhymes and playful misunderstandings turning every burst of destruction into a joke. A startled burglar flees, a bath suddenly becomes a deluge, a piano concert ends abruptly, and even an innocent houseplant appears to “shoot” skyward. Built as a fast-moving chain of illustrated comic episodes, this whimsical story invites listeners to follow the rocket’s noisy journey and imagine what it will encounter next. Its short verses, recurring motion, and broad slapstick make it an entertaining choice for families and anyone who enjoys inventive nonsense.

A playful pioneer of interactive children’s books, Peter Newell turned holes, slanted pages, and upside-down pictures into part of the story. His inventive works still feel surprisingly modern, blending humor, visual puzzles, and clever book design.
