Description

In the quiet twilight of a spring day, two sisters arrive in the modest town of Addington, their spirits a blend of hope and quiet resolve. Anne, the elder, moves with a gentle, protective calm, her plain‑blue attire and soft gaze hinting at a deep inner strength. Lydia, younger and more fiery, carries an untamed confidence, her laughter and bright eyes promising a restless energy that will soon stir the town’s routine.

They are greeted by the colonel, their stern yet tender stepfather, whose weathered composure masks a lifetime of unspoken burdens. As they settle into the old Blake house, the arrival of Denny, a good‑natured hackman, weaves a thread of ordinary kindness through the scene. The sisters’ conversations, the scent of fresh earth, and the distant call of a robin all paint a portrait of new beginnings, setting the stage for the challenges and connections that lie ahead.
