Description

A young woman departs a restless Europe aboard a great ship, chasing a vague but luminous vision of a far‑off shore where the sea seems paved with gold. Across the ocean a solitary man works and dreams in the burgeoning West, scarcely aware that another soul is guided by the same moonlit tide. Their separate longings hint at a point where paths might finally converge—an imagined Port of Adventure that promises unexpected encounters.

In California, Carmen Gaylor waits on a sun‑kissed terrace framed by blooming oleanders and a bamboo grove that feels like a secret temple. She has sent a letter urging Nick Hilliard to arrive early, sensing that this night could change everything. The fragrant garden, the fragrant blossoms under her feet, and the quiet tension between expectation and delay set the stage for a romance that may bridge continents and hearts.
