Description

In the wake of a massive plebiscite that has cemented the Emperor’s grip on France, a shadowy Secret Council of Ten stirs once more. Two of its enigmatic members—a towering Polish envoy and a wiry Italian operative—appear at the modest office of a Parisian printer, demanding the help of a reluctant journalist. Their polished yet threadbare demeanor hints at a world of intrigue that lies beneath the glitter of the city’s fashionable façade.

Rameau, the printer’s editor, finds himself caught between his newspaper’s pacifist stance and the Council’s cryptic summons to observe a planned demonstration in the Faubourg du Temple. The message, signed with a cipher known only to the Council’s inner circle, names him as the youngest confrère, obliging him to witness events that could reshape the fragile peace. As he weighs his duty to the press against the weight of a secret oath, the streets of Paris begin to hum with the promise of unrest.
