About the author
A major figure in Victorian literary life, Baron Edward Bulwer-Lytton was an English novelist, playwright, and politician born in 1803 and died in 1873. He wrote across several genres, from society novels to historical adventures and supernatural tales, and he was one of the most widely read authors of his time.
Among his best-known books are Pelham, The Last Days of Pompeii, Rienzi, Zanoni, and A Strange Story. He is also famously linked with lines and phrases that long outlived him, including the opening "It was a dark and stormy night" and expressions such as "the pen is mightier than the sword."
Alongside his literary career, he served in British politics and was eventually made Baron Lytton. Though his reputation has risen and fallen over the years, his blend of theatrical storytelling, historical color, and eerie imagination still makes him an interesting author for listeners who enjoy classic fiction with real flair.
