The Motor Girls Through New England; or, Held by the Gypsies

The story opens on a sun‑dappled New England summer, where three spirited young women—Bess, Belle and Cora—have just returned from a breezy ride in their trusty motor cars. Their affection for the open road is matched only by the closeness of their friendship, and the quiet of Clover Cottage is suddenly broken by a shadow slipping under a window. While the girls debate whether the stranger is a burglar or something else, they scramble to secure their vehicles and brace for whatever may come.

Their worries melt away when the boys—Jack, Walter and Ed—appear, trading jokes and teasing the girls about haunted houses.
