Description

The story opens on a sun‑dappled New England summer, where three spirited young women—Bess, Belle and Cora—have just returned from a breezy ride in their trusty motor cars. Their affection for the open road is matched only by the closeness of their friendship, and the quiet of Clover Cottage is suddenly broken by a shadow slipping under a window. While the girls debate whether the stranger is a burglar or something else, they scramble to secure their vehicles and brace for whatever may come.

Their worries melt away when the boys—Jack, Walter and Ed—appear, trading jokes and teasing the girls about haunted houses. Yet the light‑hearted reunion quickly turns into a puzzling mystery as the mysterious figure resurfaces, and rumors of wandering gypsies drift into the conversation. Together the group must decide whether to investigate the odd happenings or stay safely inside, setting the stage for a thrilling chase through coastal towns, secret hideouts, and unexpected alliances.
