Description

In the heat of the 1680s Caribbean, a young French officer sets out from Petit Guaves hoping to trade his military skill for the freedom of the sea. He quickly finds himself thrust into the tumultuous world of the buccaneers, boarding hastily captured vessels and joining a fleet under the fiery command of Captain Grogniet. The opening chapters chronicle his first clashes—mistaken summons, sudden gunfire, and a daring escape from Spanish patrols—that reveal the thin line between soldier and pirate.

From there the adventure widens: the officer and his ragged band cross the treacherous Isthmus of Darien, endure brutal ambushes by Greek mercenaries, and seize coastal towns such as La Seppa and Puebla Nueva. Rivalries flare between French and English crews, and a fleeting romance adds a personal stake to the campaign. Yet, when the tide turns against them, a clever river‑borne stratagem—rafting through torrents and evading enemy fire—delivers the survivors back to St. Domingo, setting the stage for further high‑seas exploits.
