Description

In the waning days of the Civil War, a Union command finds itself tangled in a web of contradictory rumors and missing intelligence. Officers huddle in a makeshift headquarters, poring over flawed maps while the enemy’s movements remain a maddening mystery. The tension of September 1862 hangs heavy over a meadow camp, where every decision could tip the balance between victory and disaster.

Enter Captain Guilfoyle, a diligent young officer whose quiet determination sets him apart. When a battered scout staggers into the tent, bloodied and exhausted, he carries the only hope of clarity—a battered notebook and the vague knowledge that the foe has crossed the Potomac. The captain’s careful questioning reveals only a scant, frustrated report, underscoring the desperation for reliable information. Listeners are drawn into the urgent, claustrophobic world of battlefield strategy, where a single missing dispatch could alter the course of the war.

Some of the world’s most enduring books come from writers whose names were never recorded or never revealed. “Anonymous” on a title page can mean many different things: a lost identity, a deliberate choice, or a work shaped by tradition over time.
