Description

In the mist‑laden valleys of the Bluegrass hills, a young orphan named Chad clings to life after a sudden plague wipes out his family. With only his loyal dog Jack by his side, he roams the rugged landscape, sleeping on moss‑softened earth and watching the shadows creep over the abandoned cabin that once held his home. The raw beauty of the mountains—rain‑soaked mornings, sudden bursts of blue sky, and the ever‑present scent of pine—frames his quiet struggle to survive.

When the neighboring farmer Nathan Cherry promises to take Chad in, the boy faces a new, uncertain future bound by old mountain customs. As he wrestles with the idea of leaving his solitary life for a life of obligation, Chad’s fierce independence and deep bond with Jack drive him forward. The story captures the stark, resilient spirit of a child learning to navigate loss, loyalty, and the unforgiving wilderness that both threatens and sustains him.
