Description

At a fog‑laden San Francisco night, a weather‑beaten old sailor named Horace Stirling slips into the smoke‑filled Blunder Room, a haunt of crumbling whalers, half‑pay officers and a lone pianist crooning a sea shanty. With his chicken‑farm dreams dead and his pockets nearly empty, Stirling listens to the chatter of two mysterious seamen—a Yankee with a tobacco‑stained goatee and a wiry, sharp‑eyed counterpart—who speak of a vessel being fitted for a daring trek toward East Cape, Siberia, and the uncharted lands beyond the pole. The promise of icy horizons revives his restless spirit, and he wagers his last coin on a chance at redemption.

Soon, the brief encounter spirals into a plan that could pull Stirling from the rainy streets of the West Coast into the frozen expanse of the Arctic. He finds himself drawn into a crew hungry for discovery, each member bearing his own scars and secrets, while the looming blizzard outside mirrors the turbulence of his own fate. As the first leg of the voyage looms, the listener is invited to feel the cold wind, the creak of timber, and the uneasy excitement of a man standing on the edge of a new, perilous world.

Henry Leverage

1885–1931

A pulp-era storyteller with a life almost as dramatic as his fiction, he wrote fast-moving crime and adventure tales and saw some of his work reach the screen. His background is still a little hazy, which only adds to the intrigue around him.
