Description

George Connor, an orphaned gentleman plagued by a mysterious illness, has spent his life drifting from Egypt to Japan in search of a climate that might heal him. Despite endless fortunes and a loyal servant, each exotic locale leaves him more exhausted and lonelier than before. At last, weary of endless wandering, he resolves to plant roots and find a place where simple comforts might replace medicine. The sun‑kissed valleys of southern California seem to promise the peace he craves.

He settles in the tiny mission village of San Gabriel, a quiet hamlet perched a short ride from the sea, where centuries‑old adobe churches echo the footsteps of Spanish missionaries and native Indians. The town’s modest streets are shaded by olive trees and the scent of citrus, and its inhabitants live at a leisurely pace. Amidst this tranquil backdrop, Connor discovers a sleek, independent group of cats that roam the mission grounds, hunting with uncanny skill. Their presence hints at an unexpected companionship that may change his new life.
