Deep in the tangled pine woods of the Mississippi back country, the air hangs heavy with superstition and the lingering echo of forgotten horrors. Bristol McGrath, a seasoned traveler returning home after sixteen years abroad, finds the forest more hostile than he remembers, its twisted trails choked by ancient stumps and an unsettling silence. As he pushes forward, every snapped twig and shifting shadow feels like a reminder of the dark legends that haunted his childhood.
The trek brings him to a grisly scene: a bound Arab servant, half‑torn and barely breathing, clutching a blood‑stained scrap of paper that spells out names and warns of danger. The brutal torture hints at a hidden rivalry between the powerful Ballville family and forces deeper than simple greed, pulling McGrath into a web of ancient curses and savage retribution. With a revolver in hand and his own haunted past urging him onward, he must decide whether to follow the desperate plea or become another victim of the unseen terror stalking the woods.
