Letitia lives in the same crumbling house where generations of women have come and gone, now under the watchful eye of her great‑aunt Peggy. The old woman fills her days with games, chores and endless admonitions against idle hands, while Letitia’s mind drifts toward brighter dresses, sweeter treats, and a world beyond the sagging roof. Though the house is full of familiar comforts, the young girl feels a restless ache for something she cannot name.
At the back of the kitchen lies a tiny green door, half hidden in a wall that never appears outside, its keyhole dark and forever locked. Peggy’s single reply—“It is not best for you, my dear”—only sharpens Letitia’s curiosity, and she spends every spare moment coaxing, peeking, and dreaming of what might lie beyond. The mystery of the green door becomes the quiet pulse of her childhood, promising a subtle adventure that begins with a single, forbidden glimpse.
