The Frightened
The Frightened
Sylvester Dodge has spent years saving for the European vacation he hopes will redeem his dull life of ledgers, subway rides, and office routine. At last, with his long-awaited holiday approaching, he notices a disturbing stranger on the train: a deathly pale man in a raincoat, carrying a strangely shaped umbrella and staring with clawlike hands wrapped around its handle.
When Sylvester reaches the street, the stranger seems to follow him through the bustling springtime crowds. A glimpse in the distance becomes a persistent presence, turning an ordinary walk to work into a breathless flight from something he cannot explain. Is the man truly pursuing him, or is fear distorting Sylvester’s judgment? This compact tale of urban paranoia and uncanny menace builds its dread through familiar streets, everyday anxieties, and the chilling possibility that some warnings should never be ignored.
