A richly woven tapestry of Irish folklore and lyrical imagination, this collection opens with a plaintive ballad about a farmer whose child has been swapped for a fairy changeling. The verses capture the uneasy blend of humor and sorrow that lingers in rural life, as neighbors whisper prayers and the husband wrestles with loss and hope. The poet’s ear for rhythm and rhyme gives the ancient superstition a vivid, modern resonance, inviting listeners to hear the rustle of hedgerows and the glow of a hearth as if they were right beside the speaker.
The anthology continues with haunting narratives such as a fisher’s encounter with a drowned lover, a priest’s sleepless vigil over his brother’s restless spirit, and other songs that linger between the earthly and the ethereal. Each poem balances stark imagery with gentle lyricism, offering moments of quiet reflection and sudden, eerie chill. Together they form a compelling portrait of love, loss, and the unseen forces that shape everyday belief.
