THE CONSPIRACY ABOARD THE MIDAS.
A local resident of a quiet Cornish harbor opens his home to a traveling journalist who’s racing against a tight schedule to sample the county’s famed cliffs, moors and seaside towns. The visitor has already crossed the Tamar, trekked up rugged peaks and hopped from train to steamer, yet he still craves a deeper taste of the place that locals call a “nook.” The narrator, eager to prove that his corner of the world holds more than guide‑book highlights, invites him to linger and discover the small wonders that define daily life here.
Together they row along a winding river, brave a choppy sea, and wander through the town’s historic church, crumbling stannary prison and weather‑worn batteries. Along the way the host points out early‑English stonework, a solitary yew that once hosted thrushes, and the fleeting bloom of violets that mark the season. Their conversations blend witty observation with gentle nostalgia, offering listeners a vivid, intimate portrait of Cornwall’s character before the journalist’s pen returns to the newsroom.
