Description

The story opens on a quiet stretch of prairie where spruce trees cast cool shadows over restless grass. A modest log ranch sits at the edge of the open range, its weather‑worn roofs and broken fence telling of years of hard work. The silence of the landscape is broken only by the sudden shout of a rider and the thundering hooves of a horse.

A lanky teen, barely more than a boy, appears on the scene, riding a restless cayuse with a confidence that seems born of the open sky. He darts back and forth, collecting empty bottles along the fence and testing his revolver, a restless game that hints at deeper frustrations. His quick talk with the horse reveals a mix of bravado and a yearning for something more stable.

Yet beneath his reckless rides lies a sense of responsibility he feels he cannot yet meet, hinted at in his mutterings about fathers and duty. The cracked bottles and endless horizon become a backdrop for his internal struggle between youthful impulse and adult demands. Listeners feel the wind on the plains and the echo of his solitary quest.
