The Child's Story-Book. Second Series—No. 4

This gentle collection of short stories and conversations invites young listeners to look at the world with kindness, curiosity, and thoughtful hearts. Children discuss the cruelty of stag-hunting, wonder at the habits and affection of a family cat, and transform a pond into an ocean for an imaginative voyage with a tiny ship and Captain Cook.

The lessons are simple but lasting. A conversation between a mother and her son explores the difference between giving to the poor for praise and giving from genuine compassion, while a tender scene about little Emily and a robin celebrates her love for living things. With its friendly dialogue, everyday observations, playful fancy, and Christian moral reflections, the book offers calm, engaging listening for children—and opportunities for families to talk together about mercy, humility, faith, and care for animals.
