Description

In a quiet Maine valley, the Dacre family watches the arrival of two bright‑eyed brothers, Tom and Jack, returning from a harrowing escapade in the tropics. Their uncle, Mr. Chisholm Dacre, reads a startling letter that hints at new responsibilities and unexpected news, while the boys glide across the lake in their familiar green canoe. The scene blends the nostalgia of past adventures with the fresh, sun‑warmed energy of the brothers as they settle back into the bungalow’s porch life.

Back home, the valley has changed: a once‑rough lumber camp is now a tidy boarding house run by the formidable widow Mrs. Sambo Bijur, and a band of local rascals stirs trouble for the youths. Tom and Jack find themselves balancing the lure of fishing, teasing banter, and the lingering echo of their earlier daring deeds. Their camaraderie and curiosity promise a series of lively exploits that will test their courage in the familiar yet altered landscape of the Great Northwest.
