Description

A sunny summer town nestled beside a granite quarry becomes the backdrop for a lively troop of Boy Scouts whose reputation for daring projects spreads far beyond the hills. When three gleaming twin‑cylinder motorcycles roar into the village, the scouts’ latest adventure—an ambitious long‑range ride—draws curious eyes and whispered bets from every tavern table. Their leader, Hugh Hardin, a clever and resourceful teenager, has already earned a modest reward that he shared generously with his comrades, setting the tone for teamwork and good‑natured daring.

Into this bustling scene rolls Gustavus “Gus” Merrivale, the well‑to‑do newcomer whose father owns the quarry and logging camp that employ dozens of laborers. Proud and a touch arrogant, Gus is eager to prove himself, eyeing the expensive machines and the scouts’ reputation with both envy and intrigue. As the boys prepare for their first long run, the clash of personalities and the promise of an unexpected trial hint at a summer that will test loyalty, bravery, and the true spirit of scouting.
