Description

Two eager Scouts, Bud and Hugh, stand outside Oakvale’s bustling post office, trading plans for a trip to the new mobilization camp where militia, engineers, signal corps and even an aviation squad are gathering. Their conversation brims with the pride of watching Battery K roll off toward the Mexican border and the restless curiosity about “birdmen” and new inventions. The boys’ Wolf Patrol is at the height of its reputation, having led numerous local projects that have earned the town’s respect and a fresh sense of purpose.

When the President’s call summons the National Guard, the whole community feels the ripple of excitement, and the Scouts see an opportunity to prove themselves beyond the familiar summer chores on Pastor’s farm. Their promise to aid the crippled farmer and help with hay‑cutting hints at the larger responsibilities awaiting them, as Oakvale prepares to shift from peaceful routine to a war‑ready stance.
