Description

Set against the iron‑clad world of 13th‑century England, the story opens in a towering northern castle where two young squires learn the rites of knighthood beneath looming battlements and a restless river. When the call of Louis IX—later Saint Louis—reaches across the Channel, the boys trade their training grounds for the promise of a holy pilgrimage, swapping local skirmishes for a grand, cross‑bearing expedition to the East.

Their voyage carries them through bustling ports, fierce sea storms and the fortified island of Cyprus, where seasoned warriors clash with unfamiliar customs and looming danger. Once ashore at Damietta, they confront the brutal realities of siege warfare, the heat of battle at Mansourah, and the stark moral questions that arise when faith meets bloodshed. Through vivid scenes and careful detail, the narrative offers a young listener a window onto medieval chivalry, devotion, and the restless spirit of adventure that drives the boy crusaders onward.
