Description

A nervous government clerk named Algernon Weatherhead recounts the most humiliating episode of his life with frank, almost comic honesty. After his mother moves the family to a tidy country villa called Wistaria, he becomes acquainted with the retired Colonel Currie next door, whose garden hides a striking, coal‑black poodle. The animal’s sudden, snarling appearance on Algernon’s first visit to the Colonel’s house sets his nerves on edge and hints at a tangled series of misunderstandings.

Through witty, self‑deprecating narration, Algernon hopes this confession might soften the harsh judgment of a particular lady whose opinion he values above all. The tale blends Victorian social observation with a touch of mystery, as the seemingly innocent encounter with the poodle threatens to expose deeper embarrassments. Listeners are invited into a world of polite society, quirky characters, and the awkward moments that can define a life.
