Description

In a world reshaped by an alien conquest, humanity lives under the shadow of the “Almost‑men” – beings that look like people but wield technology far beyond ordinary reach. A treaty forces the survivors into cramped prison compounds where metal is forbidden, and the younger generation clings to hope by daring to defy the imposed limits. Among them are two brothers, Lanny and Gill, who have taken on the risky task of reclaiming a hidden cache of rifles that could tip the balance of power, however briefly.

Awakening in a dim earth burrow, the brothers scramble to tend to Gill’s wound while their foster father urges them to flee. Their plan is jeopardized when the cynical Barlow, a self‑appointed realist, surfaces to spy on their mission, only to be confronted by the siblings’ fierce resolve. As a sleek alien sphere descends, the enigmatic missionary Tak Laleen appears, her presence a stark reminder that the Almost‑men’s mercy is as fragile as the fragile peace that holds the settlement together.
