Description

In a quiet corner of Gramercy Park, a solitary woman spends her evenings listening to the city’s murmur. One warm September night a carriage rolls to a stop at the empty house next door, and, driven by a rare bout of curiosity, she peers through her curtains. The shadowy figures of a young man and a woman exchange money with the driver before slipping inside the dark, shuttered residence, only to vanish again moments later.

Puzzled by the secretive arrival, she begins to piece together rumors about the Van Burnam family—whether it was the dutiful eldest son or his more reckless brother who had brought a mysterious guest. Determined to uncover the truth, she enlists a passing policeman to ring the vacant door, only to be met with silence and the sudden appearance of a frightened woman clutching a bundle. The mystery deepens, pulling her into a quiet intrigue that promises to upend her solitary routine.
