Description

A brisk February dawn finds Robin, the youngest son of a respectable farm family, jolted awake by a frantic cry at the window. His mother’s prayers and his father’s hurried counsel blend with the clatter of harnesses as he straps on a cutlass, a sheaf‑knife, and brass‑mounted pistols, feeling the weight of his first true duty. The coast is alive with rumor: Black Taggid’s lugger, the Sea Pyet, is about to land a cargo the locals have never seen, and free‑traders from the Isle are already crowding the sands.

Robin and his companion Geordie race up the rugged heuchs, the sound of smugglers’ chains echoing like a wild drumbeat. When they reach the Clone, a tense throng of fellsmen and village folk confronts them, torches flaring and knives flashing. Amid the clash of pride and fear, Robin’s resolve hardens, and the night’s first showdown hints at the fierce loyalties and dangerous secrets that bind this coastal community.
