Description

A lively sixteen‑year‑old named Doby drifts down the Ohio River in 1816, his flatboat brimming with the tools and hopes of a family seeking a new start. The Great Valley rolls past in a rush of untamed forests, bustling rivers and open plains, a landscape that feels both raw and full of promise. As storm clouds gather, Doby’s carefree stone‑skipping turns into a moment of discovery when he spots something he claims is “the thing I most need,” setting his adventure in motion.

Soon the boy finds himself sharing campfires with larger‑than‑life figures of early America—frontier scouts, river traders, and even the legendary Johnny Appleseed—each story a mix of folklore and fact. Through these encounters Doby learns the customs, hardships, and daring exploits that forged the region, while his own courage and curiosity grow with every tale. Listeners are invited to travel with him through a vivid, formative slice of pioneer life, where every river bend holds a new mystery waiting to be heard.
