The new ally is quickly drawn into the empire’s machinations, while the Persian court wrestles with the legacy of harsh justice and the delicate balance of power among its naval commanders. The atmosphere is thick with ambition, as the king’s confidence in Histiæus masks a larger, uncertain plan for the western seas.

Meanwhile, in the bustling city of Miletus, internal rivalries surface when exiled Naxian aristocrats seek a way home. Their leader, Aristagoras, leverages family ties to the Persian commander Otanes, proposing a joint venture to retake the island. The proposal promises riches, strategic footholds, and the prospect of further campaigns against neighboring islands. As promises turn to preparations, listeners can feel the tension building toward a confrontation that will reshape the Greek‑Persian world.
