Description

In this delightfully irreverent romp through the backstage world, the narrator offers a tongue‑in‑cheek guide to the baffling customs of the theatrical stage. Our protagonist, a self‑styled hero named George, drifts from one ridiculous predicament to the next, swapping lofty speeches for a perpetual search for a crime he never committed. He is as comfortable delivering a melodramatic tirade as he is puzzling over the absurd ownership of a one‑storey manor that seems to live more in the front garden than in any real space.

The book sketches a parody of “stage law,” where wills vanish into villainous hands, a missing marriage certificate dissolves a wedding, and a single biased witness can condemn an innocent gentleman. George’s attempts to manage his ever‑changing estates are constantly thwarted by a clever antagonist who appears to understand these farcical rules better than anyone. Listeners will enjoy the witty commentary and lively portrait of a world where drama extends far beyond the footlights.
