CHAPTER VII.
After a spectacular comet passes dangerously close to Earth, the world appears to return to normal. Dick Perry, a young Chicago office worker, is enjoying a peaceful weekend in the country with his fiancée, Sue Davis, when the couple’s idyllic surroundings begin to feel strangely unsettled. Sue’s father, an eminent biologist, may know more about the comet’s effects than he is willing to say.
Soon, disturbing signs emerge across the countryside. Animals behave unpredictably, familiar creatures vanish, and unexplained deaths point toward a threat unlike any earthly disease or predator. Above them, the skies conceal living clouds—swift, voracious forms that descend upon unsuspecting victims and drain the blood from every kind of life.
Combining scientific speculation, romance, and pulpy cosmic horror, this fast-moving adventure follows Dick and Sue as they confront a menace born beyond the boundaries of Earth. Their fight for survival begins in a quiet rural landscape, but the danger may soon reach every city, farm, and human community on the planet.
