Description

A young traveler sets out from his Italian home, torn between the familiar comforts of his mother’s embrace and the restless pull of an unknown Spain. The narrative opens with a rain‑soaked February morning, a hurried farewell, and a restless journey across the Mediterranean, where the scent of sea air and the chatter of bustling ports begin to replace the quiet of his study. Along the way, he encounters a kaleidoscope of characters—officers demanding exotic souvenirs, lively Zouave soldiers, and a kindly water‑carrier—each adding color to his evolving sense of adventure.

As the ship slips past the French coast and the railcar rattles toward the Pyrenees, the traveler’s observations turn from personal longing to vivid sketches of foreign cities, markets, and the tense political atmosphere that shadows his passage. His keen eye captures the clash of cultures, the hum of daily life, and the undercurrent of unrest that hints at deeper stories waiting beyond the horizon, inviting listeners to join him on the early steps of a richly detailed exploration of Spain.
