Description

A modest winter cottage in the Finnish countryside becomes the heart of a quiet Christmas night in 1859. An aging veteran, Kaukonen, awakens beside the crackling hearth, his mind drifting between the distant drums of past battles and the simple comforts of home. The glow of the fire and a single candle illuminate a small table where Briitta, a young farm girl, prepares a modest feast, while the memory of the soldier‑son Eero Boman lingers in the air.

The scene unfolds with gentle dialogue, as Kaukonen reflects on his years of service and the hardships of rural life, and Briitta offers the warmth of hospitality to any wandering soul. Their conversation weaves together themes of duty, hardship, and the yearning for peace during the cold season. Listeners will be drawn into the quiet rhythm of a bygone Finnish Christmas, feeling the faint echo of marching drums softened by the soft hum of a candlelit evening.
