Description

In a sleepy harbor town, a six‑year‑old boy named Sonnie‑Boy spends his afternoons at the water’s edge, dreaming of turning his toy steamer into a warship that will carry sugar, pineapples, and someday, cannon fire. A gentleman with a gold‑capped cane appears, striking up a conversation that mixes gentle teasing with genuine curiosity about the boy’s ambitions. Their exchange hints at a family legacy tied to the sea, while the boy’s fierce desire to become a fighter on a gun‑ship shines through his careful words.

Outside the cottage, Aunt Marie watches the stranger’s polished manners and curious questions with both amusement and wariness. Mr. Necker, the visitor, claims to be looking for her brother—a man linked to secret government missions and a mysterious captain named Balfe. Their dialogue weaves together the everyday rhythms of the waterfront with the promise of larger, unseen conflicts, setting the stage for a tale of loyalty, aspiration, and the hidden currents that pull a small community into the wider world.
