CHAPTER X
A snowy evening finds Bunny and Susan Cotton‑Tail huddled by the hearth, their paws warmed as they hear a tiny cry from outside. A little bunny has become trapped in a drift, and the two set out with shovel and wheelbarrow to free the shivering creature—who turns out to be their mischievous grandchild, Snubby Nose. After a hurried rescue, they whisk him inside for a steaming bath, wrapping him in soft towels while the fire crackles and the wind whistles.
Grandpa Grumbles staggers in, shaking snow from his fur and umbrella, and the family gathers around him for a story despite Snubby’s relentless squeals. A sudden “thump, bump” sends Snubby tumbling down the stairs, breaking his tiny nose and prompting a frantic call for camphor and smelling salts. Just in time, Doctor Cotton‑Tail appears with a pink wrapper, tea cup, and wintergreen candy, turning the mishap into a comforting ritual that calms the little one and keeps the cottage lively.
