BY THE RIVER
In a tranquil Indian town beside a winding river, a young Brahmin named Siddhartha grows up surrounded by reverent rituals, scholarly lessons, and the admiration of friends and family. He excels in meditation, debates, and the silent chant of Om, earning the respect of his father, the affection of his mother, and the devotion of his close companion Govinda. The community sees him as a future sage, a bright hope among the learned.
Yet beneath the outward serenity, Siddhartha feels a quiet unease. The familiar prayers, sacrifices, and teachings of the elders no longer satisfy the yearning in his heart. He begins to question whether the rituals truly quench the soul’s thirst or if a deeper, uncharted path lies beyond the familiar doctrines. This inner doubt sets him on the brink of a journey that will lead him far from the riverbanks of his youth, seeking a truth that cannot be found in prescribed rites alone.
