Description

A cramped lifeboat drifts in the darkness after the Titanic’s sinking, its hull crowded with women, children and a handful of men who have been thrust into command. The chef, his white bun gleaming in the green lantern’s glow, issues calm orders while the passengers cling to one another for warmth, their shivering bodies forming a single, trembling mass. As they stare at the tiny light bobbing above the water, a fragile sense of privilege settles over them—survival feels like a thin, fragile right granted only to those already aboard. Their silence is broken only by the occasional cough, a child's whimper, and the chef’s steady commands to “row” as they try to distance themselves from the doomed ship.

The narrative follows these strangers as they grapple with fear, guilt and an uneasy camaraderie while the sea swells around them. Their frantic, uneven paddling becomes a desperate rhythm against the backdrop of distant cries for help. In this tense first act, the lifeboat becomes a micro‑cosm of hope and dread, inviting listeners to feel the cold wind, the flickering lantern, and the lingering question of what it truly means to be saved.
