Description

In the towering Giant Mountains of the old German lands dwells a capricious mountain spirit known to the folk as Rübezahl. He reigns over craggy peaks, hidden underground realms, and glittering treasure‑filled veins, yet his moods swing as quickly as the mountain weather—cheerful one moment, aloof the next. Though mighty beneath the earth, he often wanders to the surface, drawn by the sight of forests that have become cultivated fields and villages with smoking chimneys.

Curious about the people who now tend those fields, Rübezahl takes on the guise of a hearty farmhand to observe their ways. In the service of a diligent farmer, everything he touches flourishes, earning him a reputation as the most reliable laborer in the village. When his first master squanders his gifts, the spirit moves on, accepting a new task caring for a neighbor’s sheep, guiding the flock safely across cliffs and into fragrant pastures.
