Description

In the gentle glow of a summer twilight, a young woman named Hester steps out of the drawing‑room at the Grange, her heart fluttering with the promise of an evening that will turn her orderly world upside down. Her father, a stoic gentleman accustomed to quiet meals and predictable routines, watches her with a mix of affection and apprehension as the distant rumble of a carriage grows louder.

The arrival of Nan, an eight‑year‑old firecracker, and her companion Annie promises laughter, chaos, and a clash of temperaments that will test the household’s long‑held balance. Hester, poised and thoughtful, must navigate the excitement of her spirited visitor while confronting the expectations of a father who values restraint. As the night unfolds, the Grange becomes a stage where youthful exuberance meets seasoned composure, setting the scene for a story about family, friendship, and the surprising ways love can reshape even the most settled lives.
