Description

When the February storm finally loosens, the frozen woods of Rämekorpi begin to stir. Snow drifts melt from the roofs of isolated log cabins, and the crisp air carries the faint scent of pine and thawing earth. Men haul firewood on sleds, children’s voices echo across the clearing, and the whole valley seems to exhale a collective sigh of relief as the first hints of spring appear on the horizon. The landscape is harsh yet alive, setting a vivid backdrop for the lives that unfold within it.

Amid this awakening comes Jussi Turakka, the village’s beloved viina‑master, a broad‑shouldered man with a rugged beard and a laugh that fills the hearth. He has traveled to Rämekorpi to oversee the crucial final stage of the moonshine’s fermentation, a task that draws the curious and the hopeful from every nearby homestead. With his trusted companions—Syllykkä the stubborn farmwife and the ever‑watchful police constable—Turkka prepares the stills, shares stories, and navigates the gentle rivalries that color daily life. Their camaraderie and the promise of a fresh batch of strong drink give the early days of spring an extra spark of warmth and humor.
