Description

A bright midsummer morning awakens a sleepy village, its fields glistening with mist and the scent of linden blossoms drifting from the barns. Young Bertil rises from his lover Kylli’s warm embrace, eager to greet the sunrise and the strange, sweet‑smelling “rämekorpi” that looms over the hamlet. As he steps onto the creaking porch, the day unfolds with bustling farmhands, idle chatter, and a chorus of roosters that herald the rhythm of rural life.

Soon the narrator’s eye turns to the colorful cast of villagers—boisterous laborers nursing empty bottles, seasoned women coaxing weary men back to work, and a handful of mischievous youths trading jokes in the shade of pines. Their simple joys, quiet frustrations, and the ever‑present hum of nature paint a vivid portrait of a community caught between tradition and the restless stir of change. This gently comedic slice of Finnish countryside life invites listeners to linger over the scent of fresh flowers, the echo of laughter, and the subtle ripple of secrets yet to surface.
