Description

The story opens on the bustling first night of a modest provincial theatre, where an eclectic crowd of aristocrats, amateurs, and a few serious critics fill the stalls. Lady Surbiton, her husband, and their friends have arrived to see the beloved Thespian Perambulators perform the farcical “Heads or Tails?” while whispering about misplaced invitations and a mischievous pet parrot named Penelope. As the curtain rises, the audience is treated to a delightfully chaotic mix of over‑confident colonels, bumbling footmen, and a parrot that refuses to stay silent, sparking laugh‑out‑loud moments.

Through witty repartee and a succession of improvised gags, the play within the play lampoons the pretensions of high society and the earnestness of amateur theatrics. The characters grapple with misplaced props, over‑the‑top costumes, and a frantic attempt to silence Penelope before the show collapses. Listeners will find themselves drawn into a charmingly absurd tableau of Victorian manners, where every line threatens to tip the delicate balance between comedy and calamity.
