Description

In this fever‑dream of a novel, a disheveled narrator wanders the shadowy backstreets of Paris, half‑asleep and half‑mad, trailing a bizarre correspondence bound in scarlet ribbons. The opening letter, a torrent of manic exclamations, sets a tone of chaotic humor that borders on the grotesque, promising blood‑stained rivers and haunted corpses beneath the city’s bridges.

The story erupts when a sinuous, leopard‑like apparition confronts the narrator, demanding that he write a mad, hysterical account of France in “bad English.” The narrator’s desperate protests and frantic struggle with the beast plunge the reader into a whirlwind of absurdity, vivid French‑flavored profanity, and surreal visions that blur dream and reality. All the while, the narrator’s stern father looms in the background, hinting at a familial tension that may shape the tale’s unfolding.
